Look What My Son Found!

No lie, it was in our creepy basement. It's a basement that my kids named "Darkest Room in the Whole Wide World" when they were four and moved in to our old farm house. Now the only one who goes down on a regular basis is my husband. The wonderful man that he is- HE does all of the laundry and that is down there.
Anyway my son calmly came upstairs from folding towels for $$$, and said "Mom this is really weird, don't panic, there is a two headed snake downstairs." Of course we all ran down to see if it was true and you can see it was. He (the snake) was caught in some drier lent and trying to get away. So we rescued it and got all of the lent off. I looked on the Internet to find out what kind of snake it was. OH- yeah, it is only 3 1/2 to 4 inches long. So we weren't too scared of it.
But I looked it up and even asked friends on Facebook and we all agreed it is a "Ringed Neck" snake. When it gets bigger it will have a yellowish tummy and an orange tail.
So did I mention I hate snakes? Yep, I must admit this one was fairly innocent but I did not touch it. It is now at the AMS 7th grade science room living what is predicted to be a fairly short life because it has two digestive tracks. With a fate of someday soon after his expiring to be dissected. Ewwww.
Never a dull moment.

  2. That is so cool! I have an irrational fear of spiders but don't seem to have a problem with snakes. Of course, I've never had one IN the house, only the yard... that might be a different story!

  3. It wasn't very big only 3-4 inches.
Update. I came home from school and it is back on the kitchen counter. My son said I could take it to my friend so her science class can see it. But I won't be at work tomorrow! (Kansas Art Ed. Ass.) So it has to spend the weekend! Plus my Mom is visiting to see my daughter in "Alice in Wonderland". What a weekend!

  5. wow! I'd want to move out! I'm most freaked out by rodents of any kind, but still snakes aren't exactly my cup of tea. Trying to imagine a 2-headed mouse in the house...

  6. Needless to say, I don't go down to the basement, aka 'the darkest room in the whole wide world', much. Only the laundry is down there and storage, I have a wonderful hubby who does the laundry!

  7. I don't know how much you're going to have to pay your son to do the laundry now but I guess it's double or triple digits!
