He Called Me a Hippie

Yep. I'm OK with that title  too. I posted on FB last Friday that I was done tie dying with my first of six classes of 5th graders. And Todd's response was "Hippie". Don't we all have those moments? You feel a little "hippie" and drag out your old t-shirts to dye. No? Well I did, but because at my new school it is a 5th grade tradition.

I didn't want to break this tradition so we got our tie dye on this week.
Here are a few pictures of the first and last class I worked with.

Peace-

  1. Cool. I wonder if you're old enough to remember the (real) hippie generation? I gave away my sole-less flower sandals a long time ago, but there's something about tie-dyed t-shirts and cheesecloth.... :)

    1. I am a bit young for the "real" hippie generation probably. I was born in the early sixties so I didn't do much with that decade. But the 70's were another thing.
I am really not much of a "hippie" but can appreciate what the real ones started for us all.

  2. This old hippie never minds being called a hippie now, so many decades after those college days. Now if someone could just tell me where I could still find those smelly water buffalo sandals, that you soaked in a bucket of water before you ever wore them...

  3. I grew up in the 60's and 70's. Bell bottoms, peasant tops and tie-dye! Crosby,Stills and Nash and Cat Stevens were playing on my turntable in the 70's (albums gifted from an older sister) My classroom design theme this year is tie-dye! It makes me laugh when I look at the styles out today because they are re-hashs of all the styles I wore growing up!

    1. I see the same things. All of the "new" styles were popular in the 70's. I will admit they look better these days. No heavy polyester!

  4. I'll probably have the inside of my coffin tie dyed! Love it! And yes, I am a child of the 60's and proud of it!

  5. Hehe! Very nice shirts! We did galaxy-print in class the last weeks... they like to design their own clothes! Next time... those shirts! Thx for the idea!
